  • Main Thrust Bearing

    Help! my new front main bearing, clevite 77, looks good except
    for the thrust sides they show copper right out of the box.
    No babbit material at all. have not looked at thrust clearence yet.
    I was wondering if this is correct.

    No, that is not right. I've never seen a thrust bearing like that. If I were you, I would send it back.

      Have you ever seen a real HD Avanti Tri-Metal Clevite77 front main bearing? I don't think it is a big deal, if dimensions are good!

      All of the ones in stock are almost all copper on the outside of the shoulder.

      If these were not the finest bearing ever made, they would not have been used as OEM equip. in all Jet Thrust & Avanti engines and all HD V-8 Truck engines.

        Copper is used on thrust bearings in small F**d engines. In fact, it's only a steel back with grooved copper on one side.
