  • Fuel System: Fuel Line Size ?

What size steel fuel line runs from the tank to the fuel pump on a 56 Hawk? Thanks...

Should be a 5/16" if that is what it came from the factory.

I believe it's a Sky Hawk, so that would be correct, same as all Stude. V8's except '57-'58 GH's and Avantis And of course Avanti Powered Larks and Hawks which are 3/8".

I thought all super charged fuel lines were 3/8".

Don't know if "all" supercharged cars had 3/8". Avanti, all, supercharged or not, have 3/8" from tank to fuel pump but 5/16" from pump to carb, and 1/4" return lines to tank.

If your putting on all new lines I would go 3/8 as cost would be about the same and if you ever up grade to more power the line will handle it. We ran a 525 hp motor on a drag car with 3/8 lines and it always ran fine.

Yes, good advice. Getting even farther off-topic, check all the fittings in the lines as you upgrade. Alan reminded me a few days back Studebaker used some very restrictive fittings with holes smaller than 5/16"; so the smallest hole determines the flow of the entire system.

Avantis have 3/8" lines but my 63 R2 Superlark had 5/16" originally.
