  • Steering: Parts needed Ross steering box

After further inspection I find that we are in need of parts #'s 1556013 and 1542674 a pair of each. These are the bearings and races for the Ross steering box model SE as found in Avanti R 1001. Any leads on where to find these parts would help speed along the restoration. Thanks in advance Lou Cote

You might be better served finding 1557625 as a service kit rather than trying to find the individual bearings and races. I don't know how close our Ross was to a Jeep Ross but maybe one of these may be the same-maybe a Jeep 4x4 specialist may have one in stock to compare. http://www.bing.com/images/shop/sear...0-22&sp=-1&sk=

Or maybe a rebuilder Lares or Borgeson may be able to locate for you.

If the plastic bearing retainers are good, you can just replace the ball bearings . They are a standard sixe, 5/16 i think. I bought mine at the ace

You may have the part number wrong.
The bearing kit used on the Avanti was 1565963 as far as I know.
              I sold the
              1557625 camshaft.
I am confused and do not have my parts book here.
I will try to go to the warehouse Monday.

1304-1 1557625 post and cam steering gear (16.1 ratio) incl. bearings, cups and lock rings--is from the parts book. 1565963 doesn't show in the parts list-it ends at1563328 so your number may be a repair kit not listed in the parts book.

This is a case where I wish I had a very LATE Parts and Accessories Price List -Book F. I Only have a '61 Version.

But the last 1964, '65, and '66 Superseding Part Numbers for improvements and replacement Parts would be very important to Identify some of the very late release Parts like this one.

These Book F's update the Parts Catalogs as well as give the current prices at the Print Date.

Maybe someone here DOES have a 1964?

I have a bunch of Book F's, including what I believe is the last one -- July 1971. It lists 1565963 as a bearing kit for $4.66. Is that what I'm supposed to look up?

                      Give me your mailing address.
I am quite sure I have an extra 1971.
