  • Body: Studebaker Letters on the 65 wagons

    Hi guys,
I wonder if someone could make a pattern for me from a later Studebaker wagon that has the individual letters on the tailgate. I am looking for a pattern which includes the holes for the letters so I can add it to my 59 wagon. I don't know if any of the letters have more than 2 holes for attachment purposes.
Ideally it would be great if someone could lay a piece of paper over the whole tailgate and trace the holes for me.
I have asked the museum and so far they have not come up with a blue print for this.
    I would really appreciate this.

I have a '64 wagon here, and a spare tailgate. If either is punched for the letters, I will make a tracing. Since the tailgate on the '59 is different, you would simply have to center the tracing on the panel chosen, and transfer the marks.

You know what you could do...

Those same letters were used on '58 wagons.
And since the '59 shares the same tail gate...

I just happen to have an NOS tailgate at the shop.
Inside it has patterns you are asking about, but I can't remember for which year.
I'll try to remember to take a look tomorrow.

Actually not a bad idea for a Lark Wagon that is NOT Original.

The Year you want that is the closest, is a '57 Wagon or '58 Provincial also a '62 Wagon also had the block Letters.

Here is the drawing for the 1964 and later script. This is all one piece, not the individual letters you are looking for, but it gives an idea of the drawing that you would like to find. Sorry, I don't have it!

I found that what I have is a pattern for ALL '57/8 wagons.

I'm still not too clear about what you are looking for.
If this might be what you are after-
let me know and we'll see about getting you a copy...

What seems to be causing confusion is that you want to put the individual letters on the tailgate and you really need a template not a pattern.
N.O.S tailgates came with a paper template to drill the holes.
Since the same tailgate was used in different model years with only the letters in different places or not at all.
Do a search for Studebaker templates and you will find that the SDC has a collection of templates and you may be lucky that they have what you want.

We (Robert and I at least) are talking about the same thing.

What I have is a large piece of paper the size of my NOS tailgate (p/n 1332729).
It shows where to punch and drill holes for any and all trim/emblems/letters used on 1957 and 1958 wagons.

The battery in my camera just died, otherwise there'd be a photo right here ______.
When it's charged back up- I'll post same.

I posted the other photos in an effort to show a different design Studebaker used in earlier years.
If '64 is what you're really after- I don't have that.

                    Letters on Tailgate

Hello StudeDave and Robert. You are correct I would like a template. Your first picture (white/gold wagon) in your post dated 11/10/2016 is great. I assume it is a 57 wagon showing the letters on the tailgate. As you mentioned and I am quoting you, "I have a large piece of paper the size of my NOS tailgate (p/n 1332729). It shows where to punch and drill holes for any and all trim/emblems/letters used on 1957 and 1958 wagons."
Dave if you can get that to me or I can drop down and pick it up that would work too as I am just north of the border. I will gladly pay for the service.
Robert thanks for the information about Studebaker templates I did not know that that site existed.
As always StudeRich thanks for your comments.
                    Regards,
                    Mark

                      Hi Dave,
I have not heard from you regarding the pattern-should I try and source it somewhere else?
                      Regards,

Mark-- if you sent me a PM- I never saw it.

As it is I'm only seeing your recent posts because someone mentioned them to me.
I don't live on this Forum, and I rarely visit this tech section.

So posts are likely gonna go unanswered if I don't see anything after a day or two.
                        And/or forget about it. ooops.

                        Anyway-
the template is sitting right here and I'll see what I can do to make copies of it next week.
Look for a PM when I know more.
Unless you send me one first...

Hi guys I am replying to 007's request for a template for his project. He managed to find one in South Bend at the swap meet. It is unbelievable what a person can find out there especially with the various parts vendors.
007 also found his clips to remount the headliner strips at S.I. These are not in the parts book. He had a good time and is probably winging his way home.
