  • Studebaker employee Patricia Laskowski

Former Studebaker employee Patricia Laskowski passed on the morning of January 13, 2022. She was a life-long resident of South Bend.

After graduation from South Bend Catholic High School, she held various jobs, eventually working as a secretary at the Bendix factory (now the Honeywell factory). The office where she worked was in the basement. She said it was poorly lit and musty, and when it rained heavily, the walls leaked ground water onto the floors and contributed to the poor environment. Her health was suffering from the conditions, and her request to transfer to another office was rejected.

A friend suggested she apply for a job at Studebaker, where the conditions and pay would be better. She did, and was hired as a pool secretary. She worked there for a few years before marrying Donald Laskowski, another Studebaker employee and former class-mate from the neighborhood near the Oliver factory where they grew up. They were married 64 years until Donald recently passed

Her funeral arrangements are being managed by St. Joseph Funeral Home on Mayflower Road in South Bend. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Hedwig Church in South Bend on Thursday January 20, 2022 at 11 am.

Thanks, Jim. I saw Tom Kowalski at the visitation Wednesday evening. I had forgotten, but he reminded me that besides his brother Mike living right next door to my parents, Tom and my brother knew each other through the Catholic Alumni Association. In addition, Tom's wife and my brother's wife taught at the same school before they met their now respective spouses.

'Sorry to read this, Mark. All the best to you and yours. BP
We've got to quit saying, "How stupid can you be?" Too many people are taking it as a challenge.

Very sorry to hear of your loss Mark, it is truly amazing the Studebaker connection that they both appreciated and had.
They did make it through a Lot of hopefully happy years together.
