  • Studebaker 'Racing Trivia' Question #263

Can anyone name five benefits of Granatellis use of floating wrist pins in the R3 and the R4 Studebaker V8 engines?

  • #2
    I'll try...

    Reduced connecting rod weight
    Reduced wrist pin weight
Reduced chance of galling at high rom
    Increased high rpm capability
    Easier maintenance.

To: DEEPNHOCK,----Nothing wrong with those five reasons...CORRECT ANSWER! I must add two more important reasons though....Less friction......Stronger rod. There was also probably some cost
savings.....as those special 'wedge' bolts, washers and nuts certainly had to cost some $$.
