  • Christmas Fact #10

The first candy canes were straight and without color.

The white sticks of sugar candy were used as Christmas tree decorations.
In 1670, a choirmaster in Cologne, Germany, bent the ends to resemble a shepherd's staff and handed them out to children during church services to keep them quiet.
In the early 1900s, candy canes acquired their famous stripes.
