  • Insurance

I did a search and didn't find any info.
I don't know if this is an acceptable question [to personal?] but here goes.
What insurance company do you use,
    are you pleased with them,
what kind of coverage do you have.
    What's the cost per year?

    Thanks

For my house and all of my cars State Farm. I am sure that rates will vary from in different area. Go to a local agent and get a price directly

I use State Farm Insurance for everything. My only gripe is the high rates and a different policy for every car, truck and house.

Unless you want a "collector car" policy, STate Farm is the only major carrier that I've found that will write an older car for a reasonable price.

Dan: Are you inquiring about collector vehicle insurance, or general insurance for everything, as Jerry and John, above, have responded? It makes a difference.

Personally, I had J. C. Taylor for years because they advertise in Turning Wheels. 'Had one smallish claim circa 1976, when an errant driver backed into my 1958 Bel-Air 2-door in a public parking [storage] garage. It was hit and run, so I was unable to find out who did it. J. C. Taylor paid off right away; no problems.

Hagerty seemed freindlier toward newer collector cars several years ago, so I switched to them. Another thing I like about Hagerty is that they have a high presence in activities supporting, promoting, and defending our hobby. I've had no claims with Hagerty, but do appreciate their attentiveness on the phone when updating policies, adding and deleting cars, etc.

Hagerty seem to be nice folks to deal with, prices are competitive, and I have a feeling I'd be treated fairly if any claims arose. For my part, I send them a set of updated photos of all my cars every year when I renew, since theirs are agreed-upon valuations. BP
We've got to quit saying, "How stupid can you be?" Too many people are taking it as a challenge.

          Ayn Rand:
"You can avoid reality, but you cannot avoid the consequences of avoiding reality."

          G. K. Chesterton: This triangle of truisms, of father, mother, and child, cannot be destroyed; it can only destroy those civilizations which disregard it.

There are twenty threads about insurance in the archives right now.
Some, if not all of the answers to your questions are there.

Just click on the advanced search and put in insurance, and select 'Search titles only'...
Insurance coverage tends to be quirky, with funny rules, and even regional issues attached.

I've used Safeco for many years. They have reasonable prices for older cars.

Had the same State Farm agent since I my first car back in the 70's. I get a good deal , and have never had a problem.

Auto Club of Southern California has been insuring my Lark under a collector car policy now for 2 years. They also own Auto Club of Hawaii, Missouri, New Mexico, Northern New England amoung others, so they most likely have the same policy available there too. Their rates are competitive with others that I have had including J.C Taylor.
When I was managing a body shop in San Pedro around 20 years ago (cant belive its been that long!!!) a customer filed a claim with his 53 or 54 Stude with J.C. Taylor- who handled the claim very well. No hiccups or even a question on my estimate-paid right away.

It pays to shop around even with collectror car specialists...
Hagerty quoted me a price more than double of what I was paying with another firm for the same coverage.

                      I don't know why...

Read the restrictions on your policy. It may or may not be the case here but some companies only allow the car to be used for club functions and limit milage to 1000 or so a year. Steve

FWIW, I had my 65 Lincoln convertible insured with Hagerty till a year ago- agreed value of $35K, no mileage restriction, $180/yr. It was completely stock; I know the broker said modified cars were "quite a bit higher".

I know your area of residence does affect your rates, same as regular insurance.
