  • My 55 dream is now a reality

Ever since i can remember Ive wanted to become involved in classic cars. Not until very recently had i been able to do so. A good family friend and also fellow car guru made this possible. I purchased this 55 wagon for what i thought was a steal and he even delivered it. As you can see in the photos, 40 plus years of sitting in an eastern Montana hay field did not do many favors and i am very lucky to have gotten it in the condition its still in. Thanks Wayne

        Congratulations kyles 55!

I had a green one. The kids were little then, so we named it BARNEY.

Good luck with the restoration. Those cars draw alot of attention.
I couldn't go anywhere without getting asked alot of questions.

Someone was always wanting to buy it. I priced it high one day and the guy said "I'll take it!" So be careful, if you don't want to sell it. I wish I'd kept mine.

Can't remember last time I saw the stock backup lights on one of these. They still crack me up...

Keep us posted (pun intended) on your progress - with pics!

thank you all for the comments i have no intention on selling it at this time and i hope it does draw attention thats the aim im looking for. As for the paper towel dispenser it was the only place i could find where the roll would stay in one place and not unroll itself out of my garage and into the street works great though

I thought i had a cheap 55 on one of my Conestogas, altho it's a commander it has no side chrome spear and no stainless visor.
Do you have the body # on the firewall 16g8 and what other numbers, mine is green also.
you need to join the Conestoga Registry listed in the thread " For Conestoga Lovers "

Neat car with a lot of potential, thanks for saving it!

You and "Farmhawk" seem to be doing good work in saving big Sky Studes....

bob, i went and looked at the numbers and yes it has 16g8-D4 477 on the firewall. I have no idea what these numbers mean please fill me in if you know what they stand for im still very new at pointing out the special details of this car. As for the color it is actually baby blue on Navy i believe with the rust and primer its hard to determine the original color. This goes for anyone here im new with this car and any help is much appreciated.

Kyle, glad to see you got the pictures up. This '55 also belonged to my wife's family (see Farmhawk post for story). I was really glad when someone local wanted to buy it and bring it back. Good Luck, Kyle, I can't wait to go cruising with you, I know its still afew years away!

Nice car and the BearCat decals are still on the 259! Good luck with it, it's the Stude version of a Nomad.

I really am jealous. I think I may start one
of these for my next project. Let's see, it will
                            be when I am 70.

Nice find Kyle! [^] Welcome to the SDC Forum and SDC! We would love to have you as a new member, AND one from the WEST (best) half of this Beautiful Country! [)]

Yeah, that's me ducking to avoid all those flying used '61-'63 (ugly)hubcaps nobody wants, from the East! Lol! [}]

                              The 16G = a 1955 Studebaker
                              The 8 = a Commander V-8
                              The D = a 2 dr. Station Wagon
The 4 = a Wrap-around W/S Deluxe Trim level, the lowest one made that year, the D6 is the Regal, with all of the Stainless Trim like Bob Whiten is talking about.

The 477 is the 477th '55 Studebaker Body welded up in the Body Plant of THAT exact Type (body style) and Trim level.

The Production Order from the Studebaker National Museum, will show the Line Number, Serial Number, Engine Number, Body Number, Door & Ign. Key Number, Tailgate & Glovebox Key Number, Date Ordered, Date Built, Colors of Paint and Interior, Optional Accessories etc, etc.

They just need the Serial Number from the Drivers' door post, which should match your Title and registration cards, if it has any "I"'s they are "1"'s. ...Oh, and a little Green$
