      Great photo, Milt!

My first car was a '61 Lark 2-door hardtop we bought new from
Ben Lindenbusch. It was a V-8 with automatic. Robin-egg blue.
By the time I got it, it was 11 years old and very rusty.
My friend came by my house every morning to ride to school with me.
One morning as he got in, when he put his feet down they went all the way to the ground!
I said "Wally!!! Why'd you do that for?!!!"
He said "I didn't do anything, they just went on through!"
We pulled back the carpet to find the floors completey rusted through! The carpet had rotted from being wet and could no longer support the weight of his feet.
Anyway, your picture brings back alot of memories as I had painted
      mine black.
Also, Wally is no longer with us.

      See you in Lancaster,

Did it have this on the back of it?

          WOW Matthew!

          Where did you get that!?

No, I don't remember mine having that on it.
I'm sure I'd remember if it did because I painted it myself,
but that has been about 36 years ago!

          It was originally robin-egg blue.
I painted it black, with flames!!!

I remember the day we bought it, though.
They had a left-over '60 lark stationwagon that was a bright yellow.
          I was 5 years old.
My sister and I got to ride in the very back on the test drive
and we wanted so much for our parents to buy that one.
Mom spotted the robin-egg blue '61 Hardtop and of course she won out.
When I turned 16 it became my first car.
I went down to the local undertaker to get insurance.
In those days ( and still in our area ) the undertaker usually sold
furniture. Ours happened to sell insurance.
This was a town of about 700 people.
Anyway, he told me the insurance would be $100.00.
          That would have been 1972.
          I was stunned!
I said " Rip! (his last name was Ripperdan-everybody called him Rip)
          The cars not worth $100.00!!!"
          He said " I can't help it. You're a boy and you're only 16 and
          that's what it cost."

Again, thanks Uncle Miltie for the picture and thank you Matthew for your picture.

          PS,
Matthew, there are probably a lot of Gateway members that would like
          to have one of those.

I pulled that emblem off the tailgate of a '64 Wagonaire, that sits in my granddad's boneyard. It's been sitting here on my computer desk for a couple of years now.

Shoot me an email with your address, and I'll send it to ya.

              Matthew,

I've tried to do as you requested but I'm not good with computer stuff.

Let me know if you didn't get my address.

You can expect something in the mail in return!

Did you wonder where Ben Lindenbusch was located or did you already know?

Matthew, Bet you $20 you can't do that dealer script with Bevan Motor Co. in Hutchinson, Kansas. And I'd love to lose this bet.

Life can truly be astonishing some days.
