    Great opportunity for someone looking for a project....Nice original color combo too! (Snowcap white/Ceramic Green)... 3spd o/d models such as this one is, which represent about 25% of 1956 Golden Hawk production, are definitely the ones to own!

      Also has a very weird Vehicle Identification Number ...maybe we've just located one of those two non-existent 56J prototypes???

        Completely agree!....The stick--p/steering combo is the ultimate with these 56J's, I believe only around 165 were equipped that way from Studebaker.

          I agree on the color. I used to hate green cars, but now, seems as if most have had a color change, and a nice bright green like this just looks killer.

          If I hadn't just bought my 53 Commander Hardtop last spring, I would be all over this. My nephew is considering purchasing a 51 Hudson. I sent him a link to this one.
          If it were mine, I would add power steering for sure. Don't need it on the 53, cuz it is so light.
          If it goes cheap enough, he may buy it. I will be going to that neck of the woods for MCACN in a few weeks, and won't be that much more difficult to drag a trailer. He can't beat free transport home!

          Anyway, I probably just screwed him over by posting here. One of these knuckleheads is likely to buy it.

            If it is the original Ceramic Green paint it is a high metallic (course metallic particles) that will knock your socks off under a bright noon time sun!!!

            If your nephew gets it AND plans to add P/Steering, you can give him my contact info. I have BOTH the unique & ultra-rare shift rods needed sitting right here.

              Some folks have been querying the engine number with the seller because they see an 'S.' I've informed the seller that the 'S' on the engine number is correct for the '56 Golden Hawk as well as referencing them to Frank's 56J Register. Ceramic green is indeed a great color in the bright sunlight, I know... I've got one!

                Indications are this 56J is Serial # 6030806 ...a late 1955 build in South Bend

                  Most 56J folks know the 'S' prefix on the motor serial number indicate it is, "correct" for an UltraMatic transmission. A 'K' prefix is correct for 3 speed OD transmission. Not sure what's up with that. Could be the motor has been swapped, or the transmission has been swapped. Not a big deal, either way, if done well.

                    Everything pictured in that eBay ad is configured according to the PO for Serial # 6030806. Of course except for that non-'56 Hawk hood now installed & that spare non-'56 Hawk hood.

                    Original South Bend installed engine number was: K1130

                      Number (1101) on body tag visible when zooming in on eBay photo matches this 56J.

                      Likely this 56J may have spent its entire 60 years less than a 100 miles from the end of the assembly line. Originally shipped to Chicago; currently in "Southern Chicago" (a.k.a. Frankfort, IL).

                        Some folks still assume the 'S' prefix is correct for a factory stick o/d '56 Golden Hawk because period 'Motors Auto Repair Manuals' and probably some other auto manuals, mistakenly indicated that!

                        As Joe indicated, this 56J either does not have its 'factory installed' Packard engine, or it was converted from automatic to standard shift earlier in its life.

                              I am going to be driving right by there in November. Would be pretty easy to hook a trailer to the Suburban. I would only be buying to make it roadworthy and then flip.
                              But, if I don't know whether the engine trans is original, probably not interested.

                              Tag looks like 1101.

                              No OD auto trans in 56, correct? And yes, I realize what a stupid sounding question that may be. But I am relatively new to Studebakers.
