  • Steering box

I'm looking for lark steering column or box to replace the worn out ross in my 56 power hawk. I understand the later model larks are a good replacement with some small amount of changes. If anyone has one they are willing to part with let me know price for it plus shipping to wi. 54115. Thanks. If it's close enough I would travel to pick it up.

The Hawk column is longer than the Lark column by about 2 inches if I recall.

I did a straight swap to a 53 commander with a Lark saginaw box. nice conversion, and if you don't care about the original steering wheel,a very easy swap.

If you did that with no Mods as you indicate, that must have been installed in a Sedan or Wagon, right Brad?

The attached Link shows doing what everyone who has ever done this did, Welding a extension on the Shaft to fit.

No I put mine in a 53 Commander HT. All I had to do is make a longer reach rod. I used the stock Lark column and wheel, and it only was less than 2" closer to the dash.

Basically the rear mounting bolt of the old Ross box becomes the front mounting bolt of the Saginaw box. Of course the frame is only braced for the original hole locations. That is why the steel plate is shown on the adaptations.
If you welded in steel tubing so the frame to steering box bolts wouldn't collapse the frame when you tighten them, then you wouldn't need the adapter plate even Just drill 2 new holes, (reinforce them),and move the new box back, and lengthen the reach rod from the pitman arm to the bell crank.
