I WAS THE ONE THAT PRESENTED THAT CAR TO THE LADY THAT WON IT!

Somewhere I have a "press" pic that was taken when I presented the keys. It was either in the Portland or Seattle Washington area as memory serves me. As well as I remember we only had a Cruiser in "zone inventory" at the time & that was the car given! Will look for the pic & post later.
I was the regional marketing manager just before Thanksgiving that "last year of production" & left that area & got back to my "home area" of Georgia before I had to return all air travel cards etc before closing.
Have wished many times that I had kept the "R1 Hawk" field car I was driving at the time, but was quite disgusted & left it in the Hilton parking garage in Portland & flew to Atlanta

The Studebaker letter makes mention of an Avanti in connection to The Price Is Right. Was an Avanti a prize on the show?

The car in question was a four door, not a "2-door". I think that the undercoating situation existed for all 64S-F2 trim level cars.

Thanks, Richard. I'm glad to know from that bulletin in your Post #19 that, "the illuminated rocker-type switches will give a lifetime of trouble-free operation." Nothing misleading or deceptive there because the expected / predicted length of the "lifetime" is not specified. I.e., we may assume that when they go bad, that's the end of their lifetime!

Since the show would have been seen in black & white, I wonder if Horizon Green was chosen because of how it would look in B&W. Just musing; I have no knowledge of that. Perhaps some expert in that area will opine. (We know, for example, that the Corvettes used in Route 66 were painted, I think it was, light blue for that reason. Of course, everyone thought those Corvettes were red, but they've confirmed they were not. ) BP

My guess was based on information from two sources that I had handy without getting out of my seat. I had the 1964 base MSRP of $2040 and I had 1963 accessory prices. I figured that they would not change much for 1964, and if they did, they would go up. I was incorrect in that seat belts went down. The main part of my $20 error was undercoating. I thought that undercoating was standard unless deleted. So, instead of giving money back on deleting undercoating, the majority were just charged extra for it (without ordering it).

EDIT: I see for 1963, undercoating was optional on the base six cylinder sedan and compulsory on all other models , except the Avanti. Extrapolating this over to 1964, that would make undercoating optional on the six cylinder Challenger, the car in question.

Thank you also for the interesting story. Well, I have to admit that this question was already asked once in 2008. That was an advantage, so maybe the real winner would be the one who was closest to the price without looking in older posts.
