Quiz question: In the Packard engine compartment what jackleg-mechanic thing has someone done?

StudeDave57 is sorta on the right track identifying what dumb thing someone did in the engine compartment of the Packard. Does anyone have the answer (before I tell y'all)?

The battery has the remains of a hold down, but it is not fastened to anything.

What is that rod across the cowl area?

That vintage of A/C did not have a clutch.

The missing generator has already been mentioned.

I don't care enogh to spend any more time on this (I did own a 1958 Packard for nine years).

Used a red battery cable for the ground.

r1lark wins. Sparks would fly if someone hooked up jumper cables backwards without thinking (which I'm capable of too).

Are the air cleaners 180 degrees off? Shouldn't that flat spot area be up next to the cowl rather than next to the oil/a.c compressor? That would make the inlet in the generator area with marginally cooler air to ingest than next to the brake booster.

Very rough cars...but both extremely rare....I think I'd go with the Pres if I had to choose!

Note the hose for the breather thanks to her SoCal past...

Say- has anyone got one of these air cleaners without that hole?

It would sure be interesting to see the Production Orders for these two rare birds! I hope the owner gets them before he makes his decision to keep or part them out.
