  • Door handle help

I'm trying to identify some door handles and window cranks I have. I'm pretty sure they are 47-52 items, but I don't have the correct parts catalogs to look them up. Any help is appreciated.

    Hi starliner62

The middle two in your pic look like 47-49 styles, similar to what I have on my 47 Champion.
I would guess the far right exterior door handle is a 50-51?

Here's some part numbers that might correspond to the three handles, left to right:

Door Window Regluator - Far left
    White Ivory Knob - Part #288241X1 (Models 6G, 7G - Champion 47-48)
    or
    Slate Grey Knob - Part #288241X2 (Model 8G - Champion 49)
    or
    Camilla Grey Knob - Part #288241X3 (Model 9G - Champion 50)

Door Window Regluator - Middle Left
Chrome Knob with White Ivory Insert - Part #288239X1 (Models 14A, 15A - Commander 47-48)
Chrome Knob with Slate Grey Insert - Part #288239X2 (Models 16A - Commander 49)
Chrome Knob with Camilla Grey Insert - Part #288239X1 (Models 17A - Commander 50)

    Exterior Door Handle - 47-49
    Part #284455

A lot depends on the knob insert colors. I'm sure older, wiser heads might know better than I!

    Hope this helps a bit.

Far left and far right are both correct for my 1950 with F3 trim, and I'm sure at least the far right is also correct for 51 and 52 models.
I'm thinking the 2nd from left with the chrome added to the knob may be correct for 1951, but someone else will know for sure.

The two door handles on the right could be the same "year," with the difference being that one is for a Commander and the other, a Champion. When I was restoring my '48 Business coupe, I was surprised that Studebaker went to the expense of making some of the easy to overlook parts so similar and yet so different between the Commander and Champions. During that time, at swap meets, I mistakenly bought a few items thinking they were for my Champion, only to get home and find they would not fit or match because they were for a Commander.

The color is a bit hard to tell, but if the one on the left has a tan knob it is for the 52 model. The 50-51 knobs were a gray. The Land Cruisers had chrome knobs. Of course, they will fit the other years and sometimes cars now have the wrong handles.
The one on the far right is an outside handle for a 50-52 model.
