  • Feels good to get something done!

Even if it's just something little Today my son and I swapped in the driver's door window regulator we got off eBay. We had to use one pivot bolt off the old regulator to secure the lower arm, since the "new" one had a plain nut and bolt there; otherwise it was a pretty slick operation. And now the window stays put like it ought to!

The old regulator was in pretty sad shape. Someone had obviously been in there messing with it before; the hole in the inner door panel for the window crank shaft had been enlarged crudely (don't know why) and the shaft bushing itself must've come loose from its mounting, since it had been very sloppily tack welded (more like "blob welded") back into place.

AND... get this: the reason the window fell down wasn't because the spring was busted. In fact, the spring is fine. But whatever yahoo it was that took the regulator apart for welding put the SPRING IN BACKWARD! So it wound up when you tried to lift the window and released when it was lowered! [V] Moron...

Anyway, it feels good to get something done. I'm going to have StudeKen rebuild the engine, so I'm getting ready to pull it in a couple of weeks. I'll feel a lot better when that's done.

    Ditto the "gettin' sumthin' done"...
I got the carb on the Packard changed out today, and it feels good!!! Of course it brought to light another project or two, but now I don't have to worry 'bout drivin' her. The old carb had some issues- didn't seem to want to idle down below about 2500RPMs- that's fixed now!!! Next will be a 'quicky' tune-up.
Replacement of ALL Climatizer hoses will be coming soon, too. For those who have ever done that on a car with an under the seat core know how much fun I'm going to have next week!!! [xx(] [V]

It does feel good to get something done, I did an oil pan gasket and valve stem seals last weekend, and I gotta say, it feels good to have kicked back all day today. The pan gasket was a real test of my patience, getting those cork end pieces to stay in place was a challenge, but no more pool of oil on the floor after each drive.
Dave, I got real dirty changing the under-seat heater hoses, and all the clamps, clips, and bands provided some knuckle busting fun.
Good to get it done, good when it is done (the current job that is, the car is never really done)

I started taking my 53 Coupe apart three years ago working only on weekends. I took a vacation week this past week and, while everyone else was in Omaha, I cut, welded, ground, filled and smoothed the right front fender. That's the last piece of sheetmetal, done and ready for primer.
The engine's done and back in the frame. The frame is done and back under the body, Suspension and brakes are done. Fuel tank is cleaned and sealed. Radiator and heater core are done. Two thirds of the chrome is back from the shop and I've had the Phantom interior for over a year.
A bit more chrome to do and a wiring harness to order but reassembly has begun. It still looks like a big project but will soon be taking up less space as all those parts start coming together.

I know the cost will be more than buying one already done but it's spread over several years, I have intimate knowledge of every nut and bolt and, when it hits the road, there will be no surprises.
Besides, thirty years ago it was my daily driver. It was something I had to do and the time I've spent doing and learning is more valuable than the labor I would have paid someone else. I can say it's mine, I did it and I'm not a professional.

Yes, it feels good to get something done!

Last night, my son finished relocating a new Optima RedTop battery in my 53's trunk and installing hot and ground cables (including rubber grommets where they pass through metal panels). I'm now ready to install a new white perforated headliner. We've finished cleaning and polishing bumpers, inside and outside chrome/stainless trim, and have started reinstalling them. I [u]will</u> finish this project OH YEAH! and I'm OPTIMISTICALLY looking for my next project (a Studebaker Truck).

It feels good to get something done!
And I am extremely pleased with the resurgence of the Studebaker Truck Farmers, and the part I am playing in it.
