Even if it's just something little
Today my son and I swapped in the driver's door window regulator we got off eBay. We had to use one pivot bolt off the old regulator to secure the lower arm, since the "new" one had a plain nut and bolt there; otherwise it was a pretty slick operation. And now the window stays put like it ought to!
The old regulator was in pretty sad shape. Someone had obviously been in there messing with it before; the hole in the inner door panel for the window crank shaft had been enlarged crudely (don't know why) and the shaft bushing itself must've come loose from its mounting, since it had been very sloppily tack welded (more like "blob welded") back into place.
AND... get this: the reason the window fell down wasn't because the spring was busted. In fact, the spring is fine. But whatever yahoo it was that took the regulator apart for welding put the SPRING IN BACKWARD! So it wound up when you tried to lift the window and released when it was lowered! [V]
Moron...
Anyway, it feels good to get something done. I'm going to have StudeKen rebuild the engine, so I'm getting ready to pull it in a couple of weeks. I'll feel a lot better when that's done.
