  • `17 Stude 4 cyl touring.

Am doing the engine of the `17. First I need the water pump front bronze bushing with left hand threads. I want to replace the Schebler carb. with a Stromberg. Any suggestions of what could be used? Also repair of the front and rear drive line joints. I am sure the whole engine was poured bearings but this one has been changed to insert mains. Interesting. Happy to correspond with anyone who has done a 4 cyl. Also how are parts interchangeable with all of the 4 cyl. engines. Have been an avid Stude. man for 48 years. Art in N. Cal.

Any good restoration shop with a Lathe should be able to make the water pump bushing. If the drive line joints are the same as other pre 37 Studes, then SI should have the rag joints.

Art, if you've been an avid Stude man for 48 years, you should be aware of the "usual suspect" vendors in our community, no? The only prewar parts vendor I can think of anymore is George Rohrbach (sp?) Surely - with a '17 - you belong to the Antique Studebaker Club. No? I belonged for a number of years and there were always several pages of classifieds in the back of each bi-monthly magazine they put out. I hope you find what you want, but I suspect it won't be here.
No deceptive flags to prove I'm patriotic - no biblical BS to impress - just ME and Studebakers - as it should be.
