We've got to quit saying, "How stupid can you be?" Too many people are taking it as a challenge.

    Ayn Rand:
"You can avoid reality, but you cannot avoid the consequences of avoiding reality."

    G. K. Chesterton: This triangle of truisms, of father, mother, and child, cannot be destroyed; it can only destroy those civilizations which disregard it.

What they list as a VIN is a Serial Number for a 1949 Commander (or is it an engine number?). They probably call it a 1948 so it qualifies as a street rod.

NSRA dropped that requirement years ago...

Thanks, but I do not know when this Studebaker custom was built/titled.

Gary, isn't this a roadster, since there are no side windows?

I called it a "custom", not a convertible as the original poster did.
Yes, it would be a roadster if it has no side windows.

This car looks like it started out life as a two door sedan, rather than a convertible. That could easily explain the lack of side windows, wing windows, and the unusual convertible top configuration.

Looks like home made grille's too. Not bad looking but not factory either.
It will be interesting to see what it goes for.

The grills look stock to me, just bolted in with the wrong hardware.

That's a strange looking car, and I'd have far prefered it as an original.

I agree that the grill does look homemade or modifed from original. It appears to have some kind of twist on the front edges, rather than a smooth edge.

I'll have to pull mine out and look at them but something just doesn't seem right with them.
Could they just be in backwards? The squares seem kinda big to me.

                            I could be wrong.

Here is a grill on ebay to compare.
