  • Wood Work - looking for ideas

Im getting ready to burn, paint, overlay metal or something on a piece of wood for the bed of my truck. Has anyone done anything like this and if so can you post a picture so I can have some ideas? Also looking for ideas on graphics for font on the Studebaker names as well as "original parts", "authorized service" or ???

I think many of the wood sign "carvers" actually make a stencil out of rubber sheet or thin metal and then sand blast the wood to incise the pattern. I'm sure someone with experience will jump in here. I thought the older Studebaker script logo file was on the main SDC website someplace, but I can't seem to find it today.

The font for the Studebaker "GENUINE PARTS - APPROVED ACCESSORIES" signs is Broadway, slightly modified to allow it to work on 3/4" thick plywood. I have replicas of the signs available for $400 plus shipping. They are cut by laser from 10-ply birch plywood.

See my web page about the font and signs: http://www.studegarage.com/sign.htm

Here's my flyer sheet about the signs: http://www.studegarage.com/IMAGES/si...gn%20flyer.pdf

      Thank you for the info...

The space I'm working with is 13 1/2" x 51 1/2" so can your letters me adapted to fit that?

Rick Courtier made some oak side sail panels for his Transtar (before he sold it).
he overlaid some clear vinyl graphics over the wood that looked nice (but removed them when he sold the truck)
IIRC, he had the bed cover built by Pro's Pick.... http://www.pros-pick.com/hard_top.html

The set-up charges for laser cutting are pretty stiff, so I don't think I can get some plywood letters done at about 3/4 of their current size. If you can use vinyl self-adhering letters, like truck lettering, I could probably get the local sign shop to cut them so they would fit in your space. I'll send you a private message with my regular email address.

This is the bed of my truck and the fresh piece of wood is where I would like to do something cool.
