  • Needed for an 8E Champ

I'm helping a friend track down a steering jacket and integral shifter tube for an 8E Champ with column shift. PN 1554535 Same assembly also fits '62-3-4 GT Hawks with column shift. Anybody got such a critter they'd part with?

I have NOS shifter tubes-some w/part #, some w/o. Do you have a specific length you can give me?

Photos would be great. As long as it's not slopped out. That's what we're up against with the one we've got. Some pretend mechanic effected "repairs" that have rendered the stuff useless. Our TS switch is beggared too. Steer sector is OK, but we'll take whatever's easiest for you to ship.

Dang it. I shoved my Column in my solvent sink so I could send it all clean and the outside tube is grafted. It has the tophalf of the Hawk. That sure is not what I would want in a truck I had $14000 in. stude 64 stated that he had shifter tubes so if some one can get him a length he can see what he has. I have pulled several of mine apart and rewelded the button on the tube and rewelded the stamped and cast selectors.. I know how I drive and I would not want to rely on the brass poop holding the way that I drive plus turning the wheel puts a wobble in the column so whoever the brass pooper was he did not even get it lined up straight.

I pulled the internals and packaged them and will be Greyhounding them Thursday. Metal shifter parts looked good so if my tube is short then his mechanic can easily cut my tube and lengthen it.
