  • 8 Rods. 7 Bearings = Not good

    My Transtar project.
With oil pan out, I could feel that at least 2 rod bearings were bad.
So I didnt try to fire up the engine, this was in May.

Last week I had the engine out, and opened.
Heads and cylinders was in a nice condition.
It is bored 0.030 and the pistons looks like new
It seems like someone has rebuilt the engine.

    Now to the strange part.
One of the rods bearing, was missing.
Can it really dissapear like this, or is it possible that they forgot it?
All bearing surfaces at the crank are gone, and 3 other rods is ruined because the bearing has rotated in them.

It appears that somebody LIED! There would be tons of metal from the spun bearings in the pan and the remains of the wiped out bearing. Someone has pulled the pan, cleaned it and put it back?

It obviously lost OIL PRESSURE for some reason, or OIL!

Interesting how it has original factory Studebaker "heat dam" 259 flat top pistons in it!

If it's .030 over, it must have been rebuilt way back in the late 60's or '70's when you could buy things like that from Studebaker.
