  • Is this "Super Red"

Funny, Gary! And, no to that question. [)]

Sorry Dick, I didn't see Nels' car. [xx(] Wish I had've!

EDIT. This should've popped up after Dick's post...

      Is this "Super Red"

Found a picture of the former SDC President John Begian's '63 GT Hawk R2 PowerShift, Full package car. 5 of us (in the Avanti!) were on our way to the Tristate meet in Asheville, NC a few years ago, and we came around a curve and saw a GT Hawk on the side of the road, with two fellas standing by it with their hands in the air. Those two fellas were John Begain and Ed Skomoroh, who were traveling the US to attend various meets.
Anyways, John's Chrysler ingition had failed, and my grandad ended up driving him to the parts store and got him back on the road. Jeff Rice was sad because he didn't get to tow a Studebaker back to the Hotel on a trailer. [)]

So, is this car Super Red? I think it would look perfect on my Daytona. So, if that is what it is, anybody got a current formula for it?

For what it's worth, that's my grandad leaning over the fender, and our Avanti II in the background.

      Thanks in advance! [8D]

Hard to tell from a picture, but I think so, Matthew.

If you saw the car Nelson Bove brought to South Bend this year...the very original R2 GT? That was Super Red.

That looks to be a shade to dark for super red. It could be the way the sun/clouds are positioned.

Paint codes P-6325 = Ditzler code 71409 Super Red Poly
& Acme Formula sheet = Acrylic Formula was 30-9383 Super Red Metallic and Enamel Formula was 22-9383-G Super Red Metallic.

                Good luck

                58 Packard Wagon (Park Green)

                58 Packard Sedan (Shadowtone Red)
                57 Packard Wagon (parts car)

In all fairness to John Begian....
His Chrysler electronic ignition conversion did not fail.
After diagnosing the ignition, it was found that the no spark condition he had was due to a faulty crimp in a connector on the primary coil wire.. It was better to fix it there than push it up on a trailer and tow it back.
Much better to see a Stude drive back...
                    Much better..

I remember that Matthew! I "tagged" along with Jeff Rice to help (watch) <G> if needed. John as you know works for Chrysler in the Truck plant I believe, and I emailed him on a "intergalactic backordered part" that I needed for a Dodge in the shop. I was told by Chrysler parts "no ship date available" John got me one in 2 days!

Didn't realize that was the Matthew clan at the time
