    6E5-129844 - 112 WB - Owner submitted

    Climitizer, and now housing a V8 - late 289 with four barrel carb. Internally, engine has isky cam, larger valves, bored .100 over, Ford T-10 transmission, NOS 3.73 TT rear end, and Turner disk brake kit to be added soon.

    Funny Warren, I actually was just telling myself I need to find a Rear Bumper like in Post 105 for my Wide box, it's likely a "Safe-T" Brand.

    The one in 104 on the Narrow box, looks like a BUS Bumper to me. Different tastes I guess!

    3sp with OD, push button radio, climitizer, Twin-Traction

    I was told that it was owned by a man around Pittsburgh for many years and only drove it in fair weather occasionally on weekends. That person sold it about 2009 with about 28,000 miles to a man in Randolph, NY who sold it to me with 32,000 miles in December 2016. Note on the firewall photo, that this truck was originally Apache Red, then a light blue and is now a rusting cream color. the intention is to restore it back to the red. Now added progress photos. The engine photo shows a late 1950's Fram oil filter found in my uncle's basement, which just happened to be the correct one to fit the Champ engine!

    Most know that no project is really ever finished. I had been driving my Champ for about two years, when in September 2019 I decided to drive it on its first really long trip 160 miles from Warren, PA to Rochester. Well I got 25 miles when downshifting for a turn the engine died. It really died, and I was towed home. Having a suspicion about power, I tested the number one cylinder for compression. Primed by knowing to expect 140-160 psi, you can imagine my reaction when after two tries it only read 75!

    When deciding to get a rebuilt engine, to my surprise when I found that an old mechanic and engine rebuilding shop was cleared out years after closing, and had not only four small block chevys on the racks, but also a 62 Studebaker 170. Proving that it was rebuilt but never used, the toilet paper oil filter had a fresh roll when our stores did not due to Covid19 virus. Plus the gaskets and cylinders were clean! Added are some newer photos.

    Bought in May/17

    6E5 deluxe cab, long "Dodge" box, Black w/ red interior,
    Six cyl., 3 speed, O/D.
    Serial E5 131202
    Licensed, runs not bad, correcting some years of poor ownership, including sludged engine, other issues.
    To see it, look on YOU TUBE, under '61 Studebaker Champ. Had chrome wheels, but they were mounted using washers and used too-wide tires.
    l'm workin on her! Hope she's worth it! (l think so. She makes a matched set with my black/red '60 Lark Hardtop).
    Presents extremely well, was Barrett Jackson sale in Palm Beach Fla.,2015.
