A few years ago, one was in Leavenworth Kansas. It's owner and it moved to Elwood Kansas then to KY or TN. His name was ? Handshoe. Nice guy but I lost track of him probably 10 years ago....

Well, the cars have moved around. I am hoping to get the current owners to register them in one place for the prestige of ownership and for the Studebaker community.

              Register any R3 here: http://www.theavanti.net/registryr3.html

57 hawk. I just hauled that car from Mn to AZ. The car was owned by a Larry Handshoe here in Princeton Mn 2 miles from my home. He had gotten it from his father you had passed away who lived in KY and sold it to a fellow in mesa Az. WE where not sure if it was a real R-3 or a clone. White with a four sp with red intereior. I still have the phone numbers of both and will get in touch with both if this is a real R-3 Keith for sure would like to Know what he has.

The original R3s are a rare treasure, but I would also welcome any R3 clone to the registry because I consider those cars a tribute to the others and to Studebaker. I already have four R3s registered on the 63 Studebaker Registry (and even one R4 registered on the 64 registry). All were registered some years ago, but since the R3-R4 Registry is new I leave re-registering up to the current owners. Below are the currently registered R3-R4 cars. None of them are the numbers of the original nine, but I will register them if the owners submit them. Register any R3 here: http://www.theavanti.net/registryr3.html

R1025 registered by Ronald Crall in 2003
R1089 registered by Gary Miller in 2001
R1683 registered by Douglas Crall in 2001
R2383 registered by Alain Bauwens in 2004
                  R5088 registered by Gregory S. Dotson in 2006 (R4)

Larry told me he measured the motor and it was a 299ci or something like that. He said he talked to someone, maybe Bob Palma, and they said it was possible. I guess it has a VIN. That should answer any questions.....

A list would be appreciated. I would like to ask the owners to submit a registration. Any R3 can be registered here: http://www.theavanti.net/registryr3.html

There is one in the Crawford Auto and Avation Museum in Columbus Ohio. I have picked it up twice. Once for display at the last International Meet in South Bend, and the second time for display at the Studebaker International Museum.

John Shanahan keeps a list of all the R3/4 engines, the cars they are installed in, etc. About 4 pages now. Clones not included.
