  • Stude employee & Indy winner L.L.Corum

The new Stutz News has an article about 1924 Indy 500 winner (actually co-winner...he had a co-driver) and Stutz factory driver Lora L. (Slim) Corum (1899-1949).

Not much is known about his later years, but his family believes he spent the 1940s working for Studebaker.

Anyone have any details that I could pass onto the Stutz Club?

You can find lots on the web about him (Google is our friend).
He drove for Studebaker in 1933 - came in 12th.

The article mentioned his driving stats...
What I was really looking for was information on his employment by Studebaker in the 40s.

Was he a test driver? Sales? Engineer? Assembly line?

At the risk of sounding stupid...
                What's a hero driver?
Any dates, locations, or any other details available?

Hero drivers are famous racers - like guys winning the 24 Indy 500.
(Corum was driving a Duesenberg that year, he won $20,000)

Like I said, Google is your friend.
I'm sure you're a great guy, but I'm not going to do all your research.

Like I said the Stutz Club author has his racing details...what I was after here was any other details of his later Studebaker employment...if there are any.

Being a new member...I don't know if the guy in famous in Studebaker circles for any other work (besides driving) he may have done for the firm.
For all I know he could have designed the Weasel or been assistant to the President and have a room dedicated to him at the SNM. Or maybe he lived out his days earning 45 cents an hour on the assembly line.

That's the kind of stuff I was wondering about.

All I can find on the net is his rather extensive racing career, so if he did anything else for Studebaker beyond driving - it will be in personal files. (speak up now if anyone knows)

And since no one else has spoken up (yet), I'd say his skills at the wheel are all he's known for.
