  • "Studebaker money"

Okay, this term was new to me. I found it as I was looking for interesting Studebaker stuff. Do you know what the term "Studebaker money" refers to? It is a racing term.

    Check it out here: http://www.theladyfan.com/NASCAR.html

You have to read the whole article.

That term would be inaccurate at the Pure Stock Drags

Well, if you go to the Studebaker Racing site and cull through all of the Nascar events and results, you find that the Studes didn't see too many first place finishes. So, while the term "Studebaker Money" may not be a complement, it does appear to have been earned.

Maybe it is sort of a memorial ...

I never heard the term either, but Studebaker didn't do too well on the NASCAR circuit. The started off well in 51-52 but had problems. Here is a chart published in Speed Age magazine in April 1953.

Maybe the "Studebaker Money" actually originated as a portion of the fund put in place by Studebaker. And since the money doesn't get distributed unless a Studebaker wins, it is a great advertising approach. Of corse, it didn't fully succeed.

If Studebakers would have place 1st many times, they would have sold more cars ...

I don't know. It didn't seem to help Hudson very much.
