  • Hamiton Chapter SDC on Display at the Anniversary of the HMCS Haida

On Friday August 30th our chapter was invited to participate in the 70th anniversary of the commmissioning of the HMCS Haida which is a Tribal class destroyer on display as part of Parks Canada at Pier 9 in Hamilton. The Haida is the only one which survived. Tribal class destroyers were named after our First Nations tribes. http://www.pc.gc.ca/eng/lhn-nhs/on/haida/index.aspx
We were invited as the Hamilton plant was located not far from Pier 9. Thanks to our members who took the time to come out and be a part of this momentous event. In all, we had 8 cars on display and members attended without vehicles. It is ten years since the Haida was docked in Hamilton. There were tours, some original crew members, the mayor and our local MP were there to celebrate also. Afterwards, we were invited to a reception at the HMCS Star for food and refreshments. All in all a nice day.
