How many automatics compared to manual transmissions were built for studebakers in certain models?

    In the early 60s I drove a 53 Commander Starliner with automatic and considered the transmission completely satisfactory. No problems in a car with a lot of miles on it.

      I think where they were first delivered may also have something to do with it. I am sure more automatics were sold in urban areas. My '61 Lark VI Deluxe 2 door was delivered to Fall River, Mass. and was equipped with an automatic. Fall River is our closest big city and besides general traffic, it has lots of hills! (Which wouldn't be a problem if they sprang for a Hill Holder on the standard shift!)
