  • The most unusual place to find a Studebaker tool check

Studebaker tool checks are fairly common, and I've seen plenty of them on Ebay. We sell them at SI for a few dollars a piece, and around South Bend it's not uncommon at all to find them from time to time. I even have one on my key ring. Evidentially there was a Madison Twp. Paramedic/firefighter who is a Studebaker fan... Today a close friend of mine went to a few yard sales for fun, and picked up a couple fire helmets figuring that I would want them, and he was right. (Aside from Studebaker stuff, I collect about anything fire dept. related.) Upon further inspection after I got the two helmets, look what I found hanging off the back of the one:

Somebody took an S hook at put a tool check on the back of the helmet! It was never issued at Studebaker because the face of it is blank, but it's different from any other check I've seen before because it has "O 6" engraved on the back side and it looks old. That is no doubt the most unusual place I've ever found a tool check!

Couldn't that be Engine 06, Squad 06, Rescue 06, Station 06 or whatever.

Could be, the engraving just looked old.
