  • Hey Bob Palma! Lucas Oil break in additive question

Hey Bob. Figured I would post this for everyone worried about ZZDP oil issues.I seem to recall in an issue of the Co Operator (?) you had info on Lucas Oil break in supplement that HAD a good amount of ZZDP and if a certain amount was used with a oil change it would save our non roller motors. Am I remembering this correctly? Maybe it was in another publication? IDK! Help! That is what I have been using in my blown SBC in the 61 along with 15/40 Rotella. Am I doing it wrong? Hey if I go to a 10/30 weight motor oil will I pick up a tenth or two? Thanks.

Not Bob but; maybe you did not read the TWO posts going right now about the Brad Penn and others. The alternatives, the Red Line and ZDDPlus additives are mentioned there which in addition to Lucas also can be used with any Oil of your choice.

Since you do not live in Arizona, and it is not Summer, you do not need 15W-40.

Rich: I don't know about how much ZDDP a bottle of Lucas Break-In additive has, but I'm sure you could find out on line.

It sounds like you're in good shape as you've been doing it; maybe you want to continue that until you've used up the Rotella.

After that, I'd just use Brad Penn, the new Hemmings Collector-Car oil, or Valvoline Racing from Auto-Zone, O'Reilly's, etc. BP
