Oh yes, I remember that one. How sad it was for him to bite the bullet. But then again, it was just a cartoon.

Studebakers In The Movies

Not used in a movie , but an interesting note... Some one here in North Carolina bought a Studebaker that had belonged to the lady who played Aunt Bee on the Andy Griffith Show . I believe the car was a 66 four-door . I think it was sold after her death at an estate auction .I saw it displayed at a show about ten years ago . Anybody remember the Studebaker in American Graffiti that the girls were riding in when John Milner tried to pick them up ? I think it was a 55 C coupe , white with a rose colored top as I remember .

Over the weekend, I caught "CryBaby" with Johnny Depp. It was made by John Waters in 1988. It came on the heels of his first general audience movie,"Hairspray" Anyway, it takes place in 1954. Two characters have their kids taken and put in an orphanage. They show up and steal the kids and make their getaway in a perfect 1952 Convt, the same model that paced the Indy 500 in 1952.

A 1951 Studebaker sedan apparently had a starring role at this year's Nebraska State Fair. The August 23 Omaha World-Herald had an ad for the fair that pictured a Buddy Holly-looking fellow and a 1951 Studebaker Sedan. This duo was billed as "Stanwood Sparrow & The Nerd Mobile." The other star was "Rock-It Robot." The Nebraska State Fair has been on the skids for years. Wonder why?

Stanwood Sparrow is with the Calhouns. The Calhouns are a family of Studebaker nuts-their mobile stage is mounted on a 47 Stude truck.
They have 2 albums out with all Studebaker songs.GReat stuff!! One of the songs is about that 47-called 12 Dollar Truck.[thats what the truck sold for at auction-true story!]
I think they were playing at that fair. They have played at 1 or 2 Stude Internat meets--

Google Jim and Chris Calhoun to find their websites,I don't have it handy. I've got 4 of their records,a good change from the non-descript crap on the radio now days. They've got a big fan here in Illinois!!!

I was watching TV the other night when a NY Life commercial came on the tube. It showed a town evolving from the 1800s to the present. When it hit the 50s era, a bullet nose cruised by.

In my High School Biology class we watched a sci-fi movie called "Gattaca". The movie is set far ahead in the future. All the cars, and there are a lot of street scenes, are 63, round head light Avantis. While watching the movie, I yelled, "My grandma has a Studebaker like that". Let's just say that I am the only kid in school who knows what an Avanti is...
(even my elderly teacher didn't know what a Studebaker is)
