    The Love Bug:
I was 10 years old in 1968 when I saw the The Love Bug. I was very car savy and remember getting excited about the scene with the '51 Bullet nose Stude. I also knew Andy Granatelli, STP and his ties to Studebaker. During any movie or TV show I was always on the lookout for STUDEBAKERS.
Anytime after watching that movie, when someone wanted to know what was my favorite movie, my reply was always, "The Love Bug". I would get some peculiar reactions.

Well here it is 50 years later and I decided to "rent" my favorite movie via XFINITY (Comcast). I had NOT seen it in 50 years. Image my surprise when I found 2 more Studebakers in the movie during the opening credits?
What you ask, with the marvels of "freeze frame" technology there they were. While the credits are rolling, a figure 8 race is taking place. A car nut can freeze a scene and locate all kinds of 2 door cars that today would be restored, vs. tearing them apart in a potential smash-up Derby.
Since #s are painted on the vehicle sides, I'll identify them with this method. FYI: The Studes flash by so fast they probably have never been noticed or mentioned, until the advent of Home Video.

    1) Stude #175 in a rollover sceen. You never see the grille, but from the side view it is a "post" '53 - '55 Coupe. It was fin-less, so no Hawks were destroyed.
    2) Stude #82 is already "dead" when another car smashes it. On this vehicle the front is in view. It has a '53 - '54 hood and is another 2 dr "post" coupe.

So now you can have some trivia fun at car functions.
"Can you believe the 2 Robert Bourke (Loewy) coupes that were destroyed in the 1968 Walt Disney Pictures, The Love BUG? "

Oh, by the way I very much enjoyed watching this movie again, now as a 60 year old "kid".
FYI: All my cars have (had) personalities, just like Herbie.

    Keeping Studebaker's alive.

    • I too saw it as a kid & again about 3 months ago on youtube & aslo discovered the ones in the race. My mum had beetles so for me it sure was a interesting movie at the time & I also had some of those later on as wintercars, in those days you got them for extremely low cost.

      • I don't think anyone has mentioned the "electric" Avanti, car of the future, in Gatica. Great movie!

They have been mentioned several times in this thread. Pretty cool.

            • Perhaps my 1966 Excalibur would be close enough to a Stude to count and its crash into a haystack in a 1971 French movie (title roughly translated as, "The Perfect Little Girls") close enough to "horror."

Probably Fast & Furious. Did you notice what does appear to be a Transtar Pickup ahead of the '53 4 door?

                • Watched an old 1958 Frank Sinatra movie off TCM last night called "Some Came Running". We got a two for at 13:10 and also a Bullet Nose 2 Dr Sedan at 24:40.

Please, tell us how your car ended up in an erotic movie. Apparently, this was not to improve its aerodynamics.

My '62 GT is usually parked, right next to Herbie in my garage. Don't have that pic but here's Herbie with my dad's '53.

Ah! Doug Mckeon and Kelly Preston, not to mention Jami Gertz. I thought of that one too but figured with 17 pages it must have already been mentioned. I love the end where he beats the crap outta that 55 Chevy convert with it then drives away, a bit worse for wear, but he drives away!
