  • Soap Lake Speedway

You Tube video from Soap Lake Speedway (eastern Washington) from 1966-67-68. A couple of quick views of a yellow and blue Starlight coupe, plus a white C body spinning out later in the video. But most interesting is a main event in which a red Hawk seems to easily lead and end up with the checkered flag!

At about 2:44, I see yet another red C/K body Studebaker on the track - and it is not the red K body #2 that handily won the main event. So at least 4 different Studebakers are shown racing on this paved oval track.

The red hawk looks to be a 56 Golden hawk and would have had the Packard 352 in it and a good one to race.

Looks like the barrels at the base of those utility poles were for protecting the poles and not the race drivers. Imagine some promoter attempting to stage a race at a track laid out like that today!

Soap Lake is cool town-my stomping grounds were at Moses Lake (30 minutes away)from '77-'83, we visited Soap Lake and Ephrata often, there were a lot of cool old cars in the area back then!
