I personally think all the jacks are on some lost planet, along with all trunk lids from coupes and your missing left socks and right gloves. Have you ever had 6 left gloves and not a single right glove to be found.. then a week later all the left gloves are found but the rights are missing...

My PH didn't come with one either. Fortunatly I snagged one on EBAY for a mere $80.00. The last two that I've spotted were near the $250.00 mark. Just gotta keep your eye out and your credit card

No sweat. They're not going anywhere.

BTW, were you the one looking for a pair of Maine license plates (64?)?

I believe the missing jack phenomenon is in some way related to the multiplying coat hangers. I regularly remove excess coat hangers. Yet, when I visit a seldom used closet it is again overflowing with excess coat hangers.

We've had presentations on horn buttons, steering wheels, and hub caps. Why not jacks? Is there a "jack" collector specialist in our midst?
I agree. There are authenticity mavens who must know this info. It would be very nice to have it all collected in one place.

My Avanti came with no jack. I bought an "authentic" one and looks just like the jack that came in my Champ! And SIMILAR to the Avanti jack pictured above in #44.

I sent a photo of the Avanti jack to four Corvair parts houses...two replied.
One said "No, it's not the same jack, but similar in basic design". The other just sent a photo of theirs, looks the same to me but who knows about any size differences.

Back to the drawing board. BTW: From what I can see, their jacks aren't much cheaper than ours.

If there are any Corvair experts here (or who have friends who are) who would like to chip in, please do.

Thankfully- my '58 Packard (Cleo) had her jack in the trunk when I bought her. The directions came later when I got the large envelope of paperwork from the original owner's son.

Nelly (the StudeBus) came with her original jack as well...

                      Good thing about that, eh?

One of the surprizes of my recent Super Hawk aquistion was that it's original jack was still intact! I have several jacks layin' about here, but have no idea what sort of Studes each came from.

BTW - if you have one of the lug wrenches that came in larger 2R trucks (and maybe others), look at the Stude symbol cast into it. The S is cast in reverse (backwards). I parted out a 2R16 some years ago that had one of these wrenches and a yellow cloth caution flag behind the seat in a canvas bag. I've wondered if maybe that caution flag might've been factory issue.
No deceptive flags to prove I'm patriotic - no biblical BS to impress - just ME and Studebakers - as it should be.

Geez, I may have one of those Avanti jacks around here. I parted two wrecked Avantis about a decade ago and never gave that scissor jack a second thought as to being original!

Here's a photo some kind soul here sent me (sorry but I can't remember who) of a real Avanti jack.
That looks like one of the jacks I found in the trunk of the Skytop GT I just got. The original Jack is also still lodged in its proper place with even the jack base and screw holding down a bias ply spare tire.

So I guess, as far as "Where did all the jacks go?"... at least one of the spares ended up in the trunk of my GT. Hitchhiking, perhaps??
