Question About C/K Vent Doors

Everything is gutted in there,
Right now, there is a small spring holding each of the vent doors closed.
Nothing else is in there (rods, or ducts), so it won't matter.
Was thinking about having them reverse open with just an off center weight keeping them shut.
Then, the air pressure in the wheelwell (at speed) would push them open to bleed off some pressure.
Silly, I know, but that's the weird stuff you think about when you are stuck in a motel room and TV is booooring.

I mada a BIG mistake back in the '60's when I closed off those vent doors on my '53 for a "cooler look", along with a hoof bubble to fit the '57 Golden Hawk mill under the hood. The heat inside the car was UNBEARABLE. I only brazed the corners & leaded in the rest, so when I restored the car, I opened them up again without much trouble.

Now it's almost midnight and I might be completely wrong here.....
But if I remember right from the last time I looked at a vent door (now was that a '47-'52 one or a C/K??) the hole where the open/close rod works on the vent is off center, so you might have to modify those rods to make them work.

They would fit if you moved the hinges as Tex suggested. I think the operating levers and rods should still function. You want to keep it looking stock (YUK, YUK!) as opposed to cutting louvers in the sheet metal?

Jeff, I believe all you would have to do is cut the hinges loose and move them to the front side of the fender duct.

Has anyone ever flipped the front fender vent doors from side to side?

I'd like to try this on 'The Black Car'.
Want to try and vent some under hood pressure at speed. There are no fender wells in the car.
Just think in' out loud.....

I don't think it would be a difficult mod but my initial thought, unless you just want to keep the stock look, would be to just mold in a set of reverse scoops to help scavenging by creating a low pressure area.

However, it would seem to me that there is much more pressure and heat build up in the area at the rear of the hood, so that's where I would vent. On my 74 Avanti, I plan to add a Custom Camaro style cowl induction and vent to the hood to supply "cool" air and vent the under hood heat.

That sounds like a good idea. Are you wanting to be able to open the vents from the dirver's seat or would they be open permanently?
