  • Padded Dash Question.

For my 61 Lark W model four door car (plain jane verson), was the padded dash absolutely smooth or did it have ridges? Were they the same ones used in the wagons? I have a chance to buy a padded dash for my car, but I wanted to make sure it would be correct. Are there factory photos available? Thanks.

The Deluxe model dash pads were smooth. The Deluxe wagons would have also come with the smooth pad. Although they are not being remanufactured, the smooth ones are cheaper to have restored by someone like Justdashes. At least Studebaker provided a dash pad on their entry level models; it was optional on most of the competition. Go to ebay and search 1961 Studebaker lark photo and there are several good pictures of the interiors.

I don't know if it is cheaper to restore the smooth one than to buy the pleated reproduction one, but it would be cheaper to restore the smooth one than the pleated one. Good luck with it.

The pleated one was from a fellow who has it on a 61 wagon. It is used. It looks good but probably would not be correct for a deluxe model. Am I right? Thanks.

While it probably would fit, it would not be correct for a Deluxe model. Does the '61 wagon have a roof rack? I have been looking for a '61 wagon luggage rack and it was a one year only application according to the parts book.

The hardess part of replaceing the cover is taking the dash out and putting it back in, just take you time, start at the top or bottom edge glue stretch tight and glue, take your time and you can do it! MAC

The car in question does not have a roof rack. The place is called Hiden Valley Auto Parts in Arizona.
