63 Lark 6-cyl spark plugs/wires

This should be easy. My first time w/ a 6cyl Lark. Current spark plugs are Autolite 437, but based on the tailpipe, its running too rich. What spark plugs are recommended for use in this motor? Also, who has the plug and coil wire set available? SI doesn't list it.

If it is truly running rich, changing spark plugs won't help, you need to look at servicing and perhaps changing jet sizes in the carburetor. Some easy things to check for; is your air cleaner clean? Is your car burning oil? Is the choke sticking? How often does it get driven, and does it get out on the highway at speed very often? Try running some good ol' carburetor cleaner through the carb first.

Air cleaner is clean, it is burning/leaking some oil (about a quart per 500 miles). Gets driven around town about once a week. I'll try some carburetor cleaner.

Studebaker International does indeed list a spark plug cable set for OHV six cylinder cars and trucks. Page 211. Either 1555534 or 800855 depending on conductive core type. Regarding the 437 Autolite plugs, they are my personal choice.

Also, pay attention to what the actual plug color is, rather thAn the tail pipe color. Tail pipe color is normally decieving.

A really BIG improvement in driveability, fuel economy and dependability is to change your Carter RBS (round tin float bowl) as used on '63S-'64S to a '61-'62 Carter AS Carb. 3159S, 3160S, 3161S, 3370. 3372S, 3186S a much better Carb.

DITTO, the Autolites are always a better choice than the Champions or AC in my opinion.
