  • Beautiful '62 Champ in SC

I love it except it's a 6 banger. Looks like an awful lotta truck for for a 185 OHV engine to pull around. The owner says it doesn't smoke or use oil but that the engine misses.

Unless the engine was replaced, it would be a 170 OHV. Whenever I see wood in the bed it makes me wonder how bad a beating the truck took or how much rust it is covering up.

I guess I got my engine sizes mixed up. It's the same size as the one I had in a '63 Wagon back in the 1970's. Yellow valve cover. It wouldn't pull a greasy string. But neither would the flathead 6 cyl in a '53 Coupe I owned then too. Never been a fan of Stude six cylinders. How much hp did the 170 OHV engine have?

I have found that there is latent rust on just about every Studebaker I've encountered, except Avanti's, and even then you have to be wary of the hog troughs and frame.
