  • '55 President Speedster Roster

I went to the South Bend Int. Meet in '07, but can't make it this year (family illness). Would any Stude Forum member be willing to record the serial/body #'s of the '55 President Speedsters that
are shown? (also colors and trans.). With car owners permission, of course!, and get this info back
to Me. I already probably have the info on most, but one never knows! I'd like to finish up the 1955 President Speedster Roster Update. Thanks very much!

No 'takers' on this? It would be a shame to let a car or two not get recorded.

OK, Ed; I'll make the commitment to do this as the owners allow.

(I'm not judging this year, and this gives me a good reason to beg off in case anyone asks!) BP

To: Bob Palma,------That's really good of You Bob, but I realize that Your going to be one busy Guy, probably getting very little sleep next week....so if it turns out that You just don't have the time......please don't worry about it.

          Thanks again.

To: studefan,-----Thanks for posting this info on these two Speedsters that were owned by Your Family. They ARE both listed in the roster index, although I didn't have the final assy dates on either car. I do have a few notes............
On the LA (Vernon) Speedster #7807855...... the Coraltone/Pimlico Grey/ Coraltone paint was special ordered. Also, it is (was) in show condition as of July 2011. On the SB Speedster#7164001...... It may have been sold
out of PA via e-bay in 2006.....and is (was) in 'nice' condition as of that date. Take care

              Ed, that sounds about right.

The coraltone car was sold by my sister on ebay in July 2011. It is a show car.
The green/yellow car was sold by my dad (who lives in PA) to a private party sometime around the mid 2000s. It could be that the new owner then sold it later on ebay, but I am not sure. Nice condition is a good description for that car.

              Thanks for keeping this roster.

                Saturday afternoon, August 4, 2012:

OK, Ed, here are the numbers off all the Speedsters on the show field Thursday, August 2, 2012. I will send you the owner names via PM lest they not want them posted on a public forum. They should remain "off forum" unless, of course, they post to the contrary or identify themselves.

There were eight 1955 Speedsters on the show field; 7 stockers and one with an LS-1 Corvette engine. All had automatic transmissions. Here they are in the order in which I encountered them:

                1. S/N: 7808289 B/N: 1778 Black & White

                2. S/N: 7169931 B/N: 1995

This one was FOR SALE, asking $6,800. A complete car needing everything, but reasonably solid. Telephone Number (608) 558-4899. The gentleman's name is Bill Knight of Brodhead WI.

Here are two pictures of #2 in case anyone is interested in contacting the Knights. They owned the Pink & Black 1955 President Coupe right next to the Speedster and it was gorgeous. 'Seemed like nice folks, but I didn't engage them in much conversation. ('Places to go and people to see!)

                3. S/N: 7161700 B/N: 978 (Grey & White)

                4. S/N: 7169963 B/N: 2025 (Black & White)

                5. S/N: 7170733 B/N: 2210 (highest known body number?) Grey/Pink/White

                6. S/N: 7808057 B/N: 1724 Grey/Pink/White

                7. S/N: 7169584 B/N: 1901 Grey/Pink/White

                8. S/N: 7159999 B/N: 757 Black & White (LS-1 Corvette engine)

That was it. Yes, there were NO(!) Lemon/Lime Speesters shown at this SDC International Meet, but three very nice ones in Shasta White / Coraltone / Pimlico Grey! Go figure.

I will now send you a PM with the owners, names, by number from the above list. BP

                    You're on.

Come to think of it, and somebody correct me if I'm wrong, I didn't see a lemon/Lime Speedster anywhere in South Bend this week; show field, parking lots, motel lots, etc., nowhere! BP

To: Bob Palma, (and anyone else that might be interested in the '55 President Speedster Roster),-------- Bob, of the eight Speedsters that You identified at South Bend, only two were in the roster
index #7161700 & 7170733) so, in My opinion, You're taking the time to do this was well worth it! Speedster #7170733 does have the highest body #(6HK7 2210) that I have recorded, which is also interesting.

Holy cow; that is amazing: I would have hoped you'd pick up a couple, but six of eight is 75% of the Speedsters there were not in the roster!

The one For Sale (7169931) I think is a fresh -ahem- "field resurrection," so I'm not surprised it was a "newbie," but not five more in addition to it.

Time well spent indeed; 'glad to have helped. (Incidentally, all the owners present gave permission for the data from their cars to be recorded.) BP

I am going to look at four Speedsters later in the week. I have seen the photos and it will take the first two to make one car and the other two are just picked apart bodies. Just trying to find a place to send the VIN numbers.

Your best bet is to contact Ed via the Avanti forum on the AOAI site. He goes by the title, 'mfg', and PM him with your Speedster finds.

FYI we have a friend in the area (Seattle) who has a Speedster that he has had for years. It's been some time since I saw the car, but the body seemed pretty solid then, but it has been sitting out. It's just a body with doors, fenders, hood or trunk lid. I don't want to be caught in the middle of a negotiation, but I understand that the price is right-free! I can provide contact info if anyone is interested. As an aside I might be able to provide a decent hood and Speedster trunk lid, but they are not free.
