    Hi Carolyn,
From what I've read and learnt on this forum, Studebaker had dealers most places, many were like yours, a small garage say that had one or two cars.

I too found the library in Climax and telephoned this afternoon when it opened. The librarian knew where the dealership had been, and the building still stands. There's nothing in it right now.

As we talked, I looked at the town on Google's satellite map, and as the librarian named the town's buildings, I picked them out on the map. Climax has only one main intersection (home to its only stop light, a red blinker), and the dealership was in the southwest corner of that intersection. I could see the building on the satellite map. It appeared tiny, as the librarian said it was. Climax is a farm town, population 791 in 2000 and off the beaten track. I'm impressed that it had a Studebaker dealership.

The librarian was born in 1968 and remembers only a used car business in the building, but she will ask her dad about the Studebaker dealership. I'll call her back in a week or two to learn whatever she's culled from the archives in the library and the archives in her dad's head!

There's the Lawrence Memorial Libraby at 107 N. Main St in Climax. Maybe they'd have some info on the dealership. Seeing as how they were on THE main intersection of town, they might have been fairly prominent. The dealership bldg may still be standing or even still in use!

    Thanks, everyone.

I emailed Richard Quinn, who responded immediately. The dealer was Eberstein Motor Sales at the corner of Main and Maple Streets. We'll have to add that one to the SDC dealership list!

I'd already tried my local library in Santa Fe. Santa Fe is a smaller town than you'd think and its library doesn't have resources for Michigan white pages research. What we lack in library, though, we gain in aridity; the high desert climate is very kind to old Studebaker steel!

I've found a wealth of info about local Stude dealers by going to the local library and (assuming they have such)going thru the microfiche files of old newspapers from yesteryear!

Carolyn, welcome. I don't know if anyone will have an answer (I don't, sorry!), but if doesn't flush out the response you want, check the library. Having moved to Florida from Michigan, I had no idea where the Studebaker dealers were, or what was left of them. The Hillsborough County Library in Tampa had bound copies of the local phone directories from the '20's to current times. I was able to locate 4 local dealers this way.

Check your library periodicals area and ask for the '61-'63 phone books for Kalamazoo County. A Studebaker dealers are smaller the the typical Big 4 dealers, you may have to cross reference the white pages as well. Good luck.

EDIT: I'm sorry, but Carolyn is in Sante Fe, NM, and may not be able to get to the local County Library. Maybe she could look them up on the internet and ask by e-mail?
