  • bumper rechromer for 62 gt hawk

I am a brand new member. I recently purchased a 62 GT Hawk. Among other things, I need to find a good source to rechrome the front and rear bumpers. The rear bumper needs to have a hole fixed as well as the replating. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum. As a thought, we have a forum member (Jerry Forrester) that has a chrome business and comes highly recommended by those that have used him. In spite of his posts, he seems a reasonable sort so why not PM him through the forum and ask about chroming bumpers that need repair and get some in site into your best options. A Google search would also get you his business phone for direct contact. He should know the most about Studebaker bumpers.

I was just about to reccommend Jerry. I've never seen his work first hand (that I'm aware), but the only thing more impressive than the photos I've seen are the stories of his superior concern for the customer. That's worth a lot in my book, and when I eventually get around to getting chrome work done (someday, who knows how far from now), I plan on giving him a call.

I don't know why several of you are recommending west coast chromers for something like bumpers when the question comes from the east coast (Mass.). I would think that the shipping would outweigh any gain. I used to drive my parts down to Bill's in NJ, but I believe that he is now out of business. There must be someone in New England. Do any of the vendors still have NOS bumpers for Hawks?

There are few platers in New England and none are reasonable.
If Dick Lindsey is too far west in eastern OH, try Don Borger in PA.
FedEx ships bumpers for around $30, BTW, and I ship bumpers all over the world.

Jerry knows, owns, and drives Studebakers. The bumper will fit when you get it back. It will be SHOW chrome. His pricing is more reasonable than anyone I could find locally (including shipping). Service is excellent.

Family owned and run, not out-sourced. Really nice work and prices. I've tried some mentioned here and a lot of others. Found out about James after reading the HAMB forum because I was super frustrated with an NOS hood ornament for a 53 Hudson that came back twice screwed up. Sent the same item to them and it came back better than new and for only a few bucks more than I paid to start with. Custom Metal Finishing has earned my business by providing both quality and price. They just finished up the bumpers and other plated trim on the 58 Packard Hawk I am working on along with some 37 Terraplane PU trim that another plater had screwed up.
