  • Big Studebaker Event

    We're planning a exciting weekend September 7th, 8th & 9th.
Last year there were Studebaker's driven 2-3 days to get here and they felt it was well worth the journey.
This year there will be a 40th Anniversary chapter celebration with more fun ,for everyone!

If you are interested and the flyer appears too small, please email me and I will send you a full size attached flyer.
There are convenient options to fly in on Allegiant Airlines (very inexpensive), Alaska Airline and Amtrack Train, with free hotel shuttle.
Club members are also willing to drive you in their Studebaker's.
Mark your calendar and stay tuned (subscribe to this thread) for more info next month.

    Thanks,

    James Bell

          Hi,

Yeah, it was my introduction to the SDC here in the northwest. I'd taken delivery of Rusty Hawk just the week before. I drove up there with my 85 year old friend and we stayed through lunch and then headed home. I would have loved to have stayed for the entire event but he tires easily so when he went to lie down in the car and rest I knew it was time to go....reluctantly. I'll be there next fall. Don't think Rusty Hawk will be done by then but I'm sure it will be fun anyway.

Lots of friendly folks. I was amazed at how far auto restoration has come since the last time I'd dinked around with it. Back in the day it was either flat black or gloss black paint and aluminum paint to simulate anything that even looked chromed or cadmium coated. Now they look like they'd just rolled off the showroom floor and have given me a mark to strive for.

The only thing I regret about going to that meet was the fact that there weren't any fully-restored P.H.s there for me to drool all over and stain the upholstery and, after being pretty much away from cars except for doing my own oil changes, tuneups etc. for the past 35 years, it got me hooked on old cars again.

Took some pictures of some of the cars there. Wish I'd known how to program my camera to filter out the UV rays. If I had, these pictures would have been far better:

            Mike,

Sorry you were unable to stay longer, but glad you made it for a short while.
Your were actually about 100' from a Packard Hawk in another building. Although it runs, it needs a full restoration.
We are gearing up and preparing for a great event and hope you will be able to enjoy more time this year.
            Thanks for sharing your pictures!

And of course the host James Bell standing with him, sure wish I could make it up but with my wife in the wheel chair trips get harder to do, we do plan on the International meet in South Bend unless the gas gets so high we can't drive the motor home, have fun and take James and keep up the good work...Bob

Regarding "Getting there" I am somewhat puzzled that "You" didn't mention Greyhound which stops at the very terminal AMTRAK rolls in and out of in Bellingham. Greyhound has five scheduled coaches a day in & out of there.

                    James,

I have two borthers who live up there. Bill lives in Marysville, WA. Ed lives in Dundee outside of Portland, OR. I was thinking of driving my 1952 Studebaker Camper up there for a visit this Summer and might change my plans to the end of the Summer to be able to attend this event. Ed owns a 1950 Commander and I might be able to talk him into driving it up also. I won't be able to afford to tow the Avanti up there as fuel costs would be a killer towing. But maybe I'll win the lottery before then. LOL. I have contacted Ed to see if he thinks he can make your event. I will keep you posted. By the way here is a picture of the Camper.

Here is a picture of the Avanti:
