  • Anybody ever change out their Avanti headlights?

I was looking my Avanti in the face the other day and it has such sad eyes. I have used those Lucas Tri-bar Jag headlights on streetrods before and I was just thinking it might brighten up the front of my Avanti. Whatta ya think?

Here's an '82 that I sold for Tom Elliott earlier this year.

On my Avanti I have Hella Vision Plus H4 conversion units. Unless you look close you may not notice they're not standard sealed beam lights.

A change in headlight appearance is a personal thing. Here's a few scans from a 1973 book I have called "Runabouts and Roadsters" that shows a somewhat modified '63 Avanti with headlights similar to what you're suggesting...you can maybe decide from this example whether you like the look or not...

They would have been great if Studebaker had named the car after Pierce Arrow...(as I understand was briefly considered).
I like them, but won't be putting them on my car.

JMHO, but the way the headlights are covered and integrated into the body styling is the best thing about the '63s and that they aren't are the worst thing about the '64s. I don't think the tri-bars add enough to spend my money on them, but your car, your money, your decision.

Who's going to be the first to go bucks-up for the BMW solid ring of light around the perimeter or the Audi line of LEDs under the bottom? NOT!

I work for a lighting manufacturer, making LED head and tail lights, mainly for Harley Davidson and commercial vehicles. We are in the process of a design change that would make our 7" round Harley lights fit in most other applications. They are in the testing phase right now, and hopefully by the end of January will be ready for consumer purchase. I have a pair coming from engineering once they are finished with the test models, and I intend to install them in my 63 GT Hawk. I think there will be a big market for them in the custom and classic auto arena. I need to get sales interested in marketing them to our various groups of enthusiasts. What do you guys think? B.V.
