    JC Whitney used to carry an accessory like that...maybe they still do. I've even seen chrome surrounds meant for ignition coils used that way.

    Definitely not stock studebaker. Steering columns came with tilt or no tilt, but neither had a stainless collar like that.

    you might have a point, this car was originally an R2 but converted to R4 in '66 by Kern Motor Co, a Studebaker dealer in Winchester Va.

    63 Avanti R 2 Steering column

    There was a round stainless piece at the top of the steering column, see pic. Can find no indication of it in the parts book, is this an add on or is it supposed to be there as decoration. There is no sign of how it is attached, i.e. screw or clamp. Directly under it was three or four wraps of masking tape extending the length piece, if it is supposed to be there how is it secured? Ken, Deltaville, Va
