What is the correct color for the wiper motor, for the 61 Lark W4? Thanks.

According to the June, 1994 issue of Turning Wheels, all electrical components were black in the '61 Larks. The block and heads were silver-gray and the valve covers were red. I hope this helps.

I think the "electrical components" mentioned in the article refers to the starter, generator, regulator, and the like. All of the wiper motors that I remember seeing have been a metal finish (anodized?) unless someone had painted them later.

I bought a new one from SASCO for the 56 and it is silver.

Maybe the most proper description would be Zinc Chromate finish.

Thanks one and all I lost some points at a meet because mine was the body color. I'll paint it silver.

Try cleaning with paint thinner, with a rag and tooth brush. Don't soak. Then brush lighty with a rotary brush (brass). Clearcoat. It gives you the natural finish, which was what was on them new. (no paint). Not a very good shot, but here's mine, after doing it this way and putting a new decal on.

...and if you do so.....make sure you put the right decal on it ! don't stick a Bosch or other on an Autolite....

IF …it’s an AMERICAN-BOSCH Electric W/S Wiper Motor that Studebaker bought:

                      Motor Case is Cadmium Plated
Commutator Housing is natural finish Aluminum
Gear Housing is natural finish Aluminum Die Cast
Gear Housing Cover is Cadmium Plated
                      Mounting Bracket is Cadmium Plated

IF ...it’s an AUTO-LITE or REDMOND Motor, hopefully someone else will chime in with that info.

                      Good Luck!!!

FWIW the 6v redmond motor on the earlier cars:

                        gloss black for the motor
bare die cast aluminum for the gear case
cad plated steel for the cover over the gears.
gloss black for the sheet metal bracket the motor attaches to that then attaches to the firewall.
