  • found a lost photo of 'ol Ely Stokes from back in the day

This is just amazing. I decided to look up "Ely Stokes" on google and this came up. Ely Stokes is the business name on my car and on their website they have a photo of what appears to be my car from back in the '70s.

I emailed them asking for more information about the history of my car with their business, and bigger copy of the photo on their website. I hope they respond!

They will probably offer to buy the car back . . At least thats what i would do if i owned the company . . .
Hopefully you kept the Ely name on the side of your car . !

Cool beans, Chris. I guess it hadn't occurred to me to check that out, because they are well-known here in central Indiana. BP

Chris this is fantastic. To know the early history of a classic car that you own and drive is a fun part of such a hobby.

Maybe they would foot the bill for restoration back to what it looked like when they had it , as long as you'd let them use it for their promo from time to time !

Check the Stove Huggers thread "Stalnaker Diner". You've inspired me to try to track down more pictures or information of a company truck that interests me. I had to post it there because its a Ford truck.

So far I haven't heard back from them. Both of my doors still clearly say Ely Stokes, but much of "Master Chimney Sweep, Indinapolis Indiana" is worn off, but still readable. When I get deeper into restoring Ely I wanted to put "Ely Stokes Master Chimney Sweep, Indianapolis Indiana" and the phone number back on it just like it was back then, and I don't have a problem with them using it in a promo. I think that would be cool! If they don't respond to my email, I'll call them next week. I also sent them two photos of Ely just so they know this isn't some kind of joke. I looked a little closer at the photo on their website and on the cowl, you can barely see it, but there's a radio antenna. It's NOT correct for the car, Ely still has the antenna, so I know the car in the photo is Ely.

I hope your perseverance pays off. It would make a great story.

So far, no reply. I guess I'll call them sometime in the later part of the winter, this is their bussiest time of year.
