    • 1961 Thousand Oaks, CA. From the Thousand Oaks library collection. This rock house/tavern is no longer in existence. It was torn down to make way for a freeway overpass.

        • Looking at the far left white car next to the Buick, could it be a 60-61 Valiant?
Also cool to see the -56 G.H. being in front of the 51-52 Cadillac.

          • 12034 - Noxnabaker, yes that definitely is a Plymouth Valiant (U.S. name). In Canada it was just called Valiant and sold by both Plymouth and Dodge dealers.

As I've heard they were Valiant at first & depending on country became Plymouth -61 or -62 depending on countries, here we got the -62 as Plymouths. & it was to take up the gap the DeSoto left & then they figured Plymouth (& dodge as Lancer) needed compacts as Chevy & Ford already had theirs, otherwise Plymouth would've had way to low official sales.
But that's only what I've heard so that can for sure be wrong,
(in Sweden no Valiant was called Plymouth by the common man before the -63 model came)

          • Bill,
You are correct and if I remember correctly it was the first car sold in Canada equipped with an alternator, predating our Studes by a couple of years..

              • None photo post - just an observation.

Scrolled through over 50 pages of this thread (@460 to 525 or so) and am saddened to see so many photos are no longer visible. Either the website that was hosting them is no longer available or the links are bad for some reason. There are multiple pages where there is not a single photo: No photo - pg 516

Sadly, they are no longer visible to anyone looking through this thread.

                • 12036 -- Bill, you are correct that the 1960 Valiant was the first car sold in Canada with an alternator. 1960 was also the first year for slant-six engines in Chrysler products.

Valiant remained a separate car make in Canada until at least the late 1960s. Lancers were never sold in Canada. A Canadian 1964 Valiant has the same grille as a U.S. Valiant, and the same tail lights as a U.S. Lancer. (My father owned a 1960 Valiant station wagon, then a 1964 Valiant 4-door sedan.)

                    • Fredericksburg, Texas - main street. These days, it is wall-to-wall tourist and most residents don't drive within three blocks of this same street. Portals of Texas history website.

1966 was the first year of separate A-body Dodge Dart and Plymouth Valiant marques in Canada. 1966 was also the first year the redesigned B-body Coronet/Belvedere line was marketed in Canada, after the C-body, which became the full-size offering, was introduced for 1965.
