  • Spiffy Stuff for Engine Compartment

Our R2 Avanti underwent an engine rebuild and detailing of the engine compartment by the longtime prior conscientious owner a couple of decades ago. There have been only a thousand or so miles since, but it needed some freshening when it arrived last summer. Thought I would share a couple of sources.

KSB Motor Coater is said to withstand temps up to 450F. It's offered in about 18 colors. They offer one of the few low-gloss black engine enamels (velvet black). I chose it for the intake manifold because it didn't contrast with the older enamel on the block. (The paint used before had lousy heat resistance on the intake, otherwise still OK.) It brushed on nicely.

The old battery cables were 6 gauge generic stuff, I had O gauge made up by a local vendor, they were ready for local pick up or shipping in about 24-48 hours. They offer vinyl or braided cloth coverings, also did a really nice job on 00 gauge negative cable and 0 gauge braided flat ground strap for the Speedster.

That's one of the nice things about Stude's....
You don't have to have it all blinged out to make it catch your eye...
Nice work! I like what you have done a lot!

Very nice, looks like a new carb insulator, something special?

That insulator is a part of Jon Myer's excellent rebuild kit for the AFB. Great idea, but it raised the carb just enough that we needed to shave some material from the flange on the R2 bonnet to avoid contact with the hood.

          Very sanitary! Me like.
No deceptive flags to prove I'm patriotic - no biblical BS to impress - just ME and Studebakers - as it should be.
