I did hear it wrong!
Here's the scoop (I just talked to Dan....)
Dan was driving the car (even though the radio guy said Mark Roppolo was in there)....
Dan did not want to put Mark in a hard place what with the engine being fresh and all...
Dan ran the car real easy to check it out, but he did run it the full three miles.
The car (engine) ran great!
Dan said the plugs were a little gas fouled at first but cleaned up ok, and after the run they actually read a bit lean, so they are fattening it up a bit in the morning.
Oil pressure was good. 80psi at the start of the run. 70psi at the end of the run.
Temp was good. Read 180 degree's at chute deployment and did a slow creep to 200 degree's and steadied there.
Ran it medium through 1st, and second gear.....
Put it in third gear and slowly pushed the pedal to the floor.
Felt the secondaries open up and the engine pulled real strong. No bog, no lag, no hesitation. Just a strong pull for a short test.
Pulled the chute, let off throttle until the RPM's were under 3000. Pushed in the clutch and shut off the engine.
Didn't want to idle it for any length of time for fear of fuel puddling.
Plan on getting up and at it early so they can fix what needs fixing, and go and get in line ASAP.
The throng of racers is a lot lighter already, so they think they can get in three passes.
The record they are going for is currently 204.5 mph, so they need to exceed 205.5 to get the record.

Dateline Friday.....
Made first run this morning with Mark driving.
Had a little trouble with the first push start. Mark is taller than Dan and the pedals were hard to work for Mark.
Went through the licensing pass OK, even though the speed was a bit slow.
Dan sets the RPM that is required for the license run into the shift light and told Mark to run it just up to where the light comes on and then ease off until it stays off..
The tire change this morning might have thrown his RPM setting off a bit.
Re-jetting the carb again for the second run today. Still reads lean.
Dan thinks the fuel is totally vaporized by the blower, but then falls out in the intercooler, and is lean at the engine.
Doesn't want to take huge swings at it.
Second run will be another licensing run for Mark.
20+ mph cross wind today.
Motorcycles are not allowed to run at all, so maybe 3 or more runs might be made if the course and the competitors all line up well.
There's a GT Hawk with a BBC there. They want to run 200, but so far have only run 168.
The yellow father & son '53 Stude is out running 116+ mph.
