  • Scammers replying to club adds

I posted my 2nd add in Turning Wheels and I have had 5 replies from people offering parts. 4 of these have been scams. One from Spain , 3 from England. One of the scammers used a stolen Australian identity but used a Uk phone number that was linked to a popular scam in the UK.
One of the scammers sent me photos of a car he was supposedly parting out but the car is too perfect to be parted out. I asked him for the serial number and he replied with one of the starting number straight out of the Stude manual for my year car
Has anyone else struck the same problem ?
I wish I had the same response from people who really had the parts !!

The only thing which is not good about 'Turning Wheels' is that at some
stage , the advertisements end up "Online" which makes it open to the
Scammers . Obviously , if you have listed a 'Wanted' ad , that is a green
light to a certain grouping of absolute low lifes . All that you can do is to
have an SDC Chrono so that you know who you are dealing with as well
as establishing the "facts" in respect to what is on offer . This type of
scam is not limited to involvement with things 'Studebaker' . It is a world
wide problem which is prevalent in all sorts of activities . Certain sellers,
quite rightly will not sell to people outside the USA on Ebay because of
all sorts of dramas that everyone blames on the Post so beware in
particular with 'Wanteds' because if the deal is too good , avoid it !

I talked to Chris Skinner last night and he had sourced the last headers in Australia from the other people you mentioned. I need the headers and the id plates for a 1958 Golden Hawk. If you can help it would be appreciated.
